“House” is a human-centered perspective rather than an animal’s perspective. For animals, living space is mobile; in this sense, their “house” is also mobile. An animal’s house can therefore be abstracted as a moving zone of safety. This metaphor can be observed in animals with camouflage. Consequently, the absence of protective external features of the body implies being without a house. In snowy environments and under thermal imaging, the protective function of the “house” is absent.
